Sun City offers top class golf and family entertainment, with malaria-free Big 5 game viewing at Pilanesberg and Madikwe reserves
Sun City is known around the world for its top class golf, but is equally comfortable to offer itself as a family resort with various sports and entertainment. There is a casino, of course, but otherwise has little in common with Las Vegas.
The adjacent Big 5 Pilanesberg offers accommodation but tends to be better known for its day excursions from Sun City and Johannesburg.
Madikwe on the Botswana border is again Big 5 with a range of luxury lodges. The reserve is known for its very successful programme to protect Wild Dogs - pretty much guaranteed duringa visit.
The absence of malaria has added to the attraction of the Pilanesberg and more recent Madikwe reserves. Much of the rest of the province is arid, flat scrubland populated by towns that have grown up around the platinum mines.
