Rich biodiversity, chimpanzees, various monkeys, luxury lodge
Nyungwe Forest is best known for its chimpanzee population, just one of 13 primate species living in the forest. These include the red-tailed, golden and silver monkey, olive baboon and baboon-like grey-cheeked mandabey.
The national park is rich in biodiversity with more endemic species than are known in any other forest in the region. There are more than 1000 plant species alone.
Accommodation ranges from luxury lodge to basic guesthouse, with more options available in nearby Cyangugu on lake Kivu.
