Endless sandy expanses, pastel mountains, desert wildlife and gravel roads
The starkly arid conditions of Southern Namibia are best appreciated by a drive across sandy plains that stretch into distant pastel mountains, reached over an unwavering road of maybe 50 kilometres.
Patience and plenty of water are required to enjoy gravel roads that seem to get longer as you travel. The treacherous surface is always ready to betray drivers who push their luck with disrespectful speeds. Wide gravel roads quickly turn to a layer of marbles that claims numerous trophies.
The space is the journey, rewarded by itself and contrasting destinations in the massive Fish River Canyon and the colonial port at Luderitz.
