Cape Town's signature attraction, cablecar ascent, fine views over city to Table Bay

Cape Town

Table Mountain

Link

Table Mountain sits directly behind Cape Town to provide one of the world's best known destinations and the city's most popular attraction.

The sandstone mountain stands 1085m above the sea to form the northern limit of the Cape Peninsular mountain range. The area is protected as a national park with its diverse indigenous plants and plentiful dassie rock hyrax running around.

In just a few minutes, the revolving cableway transports visitors to stunning views across the city centre to Table Bay and Robben Island subject to interruptions by characteristically clinging cloud cover and closure by excessive winds.

Numerous walking paths make the ascent but should be tackled with respect for quickly changing weather conditions, preferably with a local guide. Notable views are also found at the lower cableway station and adjacent Signal Hill.
