Lions of the Serengeti, snows of Kilimanjaro, streets of Stone Town and blue of the Ocean

East Africa

Tanzania

Wildlife is headlined by Ngorongoro Crater and the annual Serengeti migration as millions of zebra and antelope follow the rains. Contrasting scenery is found at Lake Manyara and classic acacia dotted landscapes at Tarangire.

The southern parks offer excellent wildlife around the rivers of the Selous and Ruaha. To the remote west, chimpanzee trekking and swimming in Lake Tanganyika are the attractions at Gombe Stream and Mahale. The wilderness experience at remote Katavi is no less impressive.

Zanzibar, Pemba and Mafia offer varied Indian Ocean island getaways, diving, fishing and historic legacies of past empires. The mainland coast offers its own beachside breaks punctuated by the ruins at Kilwa and the old slaving centre at Bagamoyo.
