Huge numbers of elephant and buffalo, thousands of lion, interconnected lakes and vibrant sunsets
The Selous is the largest single game reserve in Africa with close to one million large mammals and 350 bird species in habitats ranging from savanna grasslands to miombo woodlands.
Part of an even greater ecosystem, the Selous manages to support huge numbers of elephants and buffalo and thousands of lions. Black rhinocerous is found here and wild dog sightings are common.
The game viewing area is set around a group of scenic interconnected lakes, allowing worthwhile exploration in themselves and notably for vibrant sunsets.
The lakes are fed by a central artery in the meadering Rufiji River with an impressive population of hippo, crocodile and rich birdlife best seen in close-up from the river itself.
