Vast grassland plains, famous for the world's biggest migration
The Plains of the Serengeti are best known for the Great Migration which sees millions of zebra and wildebeest on their annual trek between Tanzania and Kenya's neighbouring Masai Mara.
Rocky outcrops occasionally break up the landscape but it is the grassy savannah that dominates. Following the migration is the big attraction, but there is always plenty to keep the visitor happy.
The Serengeti is the most complex and least disturbed ecosystem on earth, with numerous species of large mammals and nearly 500 species of birds. Sightings of lion, leopard and cheetah can all be expected.
