Large herds of elephant around the river, varied woodland scenery, rich birdlife and baobab trees

Tanzania public reserve

Tarangire

The scenic woodlands of Tarangire national park are part of the third largest ecosystem in Tanzania, covering an area which extends up the Rift Valley to Lake Natron. Large concentrations of wildlife are drawn to the river between July and November during the dry season migration.

Tarangire's northern area follows the river between the main lodges. The more thickly wooded area contrasts with the grasslands of the Serengeti, with better hiding for the big cats but compensated by large herds of elephants.

The less visited south of the park is cheetah country. Large herds of buffalo may be seen in the Kitibong area while Lamarkau Swamp is known for its wet season waterbirds.
