Rugged mountain scenery, rich animal and birdlife, arid plains, distant southern Sudan

Uganda public reserve

Kidepo Valley

Kidepo Valley national park was established in the 1960s in the fertile savannah plains of the Ik people. It lies at altitude in the far north of Uganda with distant views of the mountains of the southern Sudan.

Visitors are rewarded with rugged mountain scenery, great game viewing and birding but above all a true sense of wilderness. The highest peak reaches 2750m at Mount Morungule.

Waters of the River Kidepo supports over 80 mammal species including lion, cheetah, leopard, bat-eared fox, patas monkey and giraffe. Many of them are not found elsewhere in the country. Close to 500 bird species make it second only to Queen Elizabeth national park, again with many localised species.
