The buttons below the map hide/show locations by type – eg Accommodation, Airports, Reserves, Borders.

The buttons on the right apply to the map as a whole
Lassoo – zooms the map to include all visible items
Show – make ALL items visible – this may clutter the map
Hide – removes all items from the maps
Ruler – provide a simple scale tool – the endpoints can be dragged to measure the distance of interest

Zoom & pan – handled by the controls on the left or more directly by dragging and double-click

Gorillas, chimpanzees and shoebill stork punctuate fine mountain scenery

Primate tracking is a key attraction - mountain gorillas around Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and chimpanzees at Kibale and Semliki. Lion, leopard, elephant and a multitude of monkeys reward visitors, alongside a variety of habitat - mountains, volcanoes and plains.

Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth national parks offer game viewing by land and boat. Here are found some of Africa's richest birding habitats - including the prehistoric Shoebill Stork.

The quest for the Source of the Nile caught the public imagination in Victorian days - eventually identified by Speke at Jinja, although Lake Victoria is fed in turn by a number of sources of its own.
