Rainforest birds, chimpanzees, forest elephant, pygmy hippos
Semuliki or Semliki national park sits along the border with DR Congo close to Lake Albert with some of the most diverse habitats in Africa, from rainforest to grass savannah. Chimpanzee lives alongside forest elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo.
Most of the plant and animal species are found in the Congo Basin forests, with many reaching the eastern limit of their range in Semliki.
The park has over 60 mammal species including pygmy hippo, mona monkeys, pygmy flying squirrel, eight primate species and some 300 butterfly species.
The park has more than 400 bird species, with nine species of hornbill and over 200 true forest birds, including the rare forest ground thrush and Sassi’s Olive Greenbul.
