Great views at high water, Livingstone Island at low water
The Zambia side of Victoria Falls became popular as Zimbabwe's image suffered at the start of the millenium. The Eastern Cataract is most impressive when water levels peak from February to July and vast volumes of spray guarrantee a soaking but still allow good viewing.
There are exceptional views of the across to the oncoming Zambesi and Victoria Falls Bridge that provides the border crossing. The short walk high above the river is well maintained and not too demanding, if a little slippery at times.
Most dramatic views of the Falls are from the air, maybe on arrival if you come by light plane. Helicopter and microlight fly over the magnificent main cataract of the Falls with views up and down the river. Longer flights include a breath-taking plunge into the gorge and game spotting in the compact Mosi-Oa-Tunya national park.
At low water, Livingstone Island provides the closest of views at the top of the Falls where the adventurous can take a dip in Devil's Pool and gaze directly down the cataract wall. The Eastern Cataract is largely dry at this time, with more distant views of the Falls.
