Marshy plains, excellent predator sightings, puku and sitatunga, rich birdlife
Kafue national park is Zambia's largest with excellent predator sightings and extensive marshy areas which draw less common antelopes red lechwe, sitatunga and puku as well as roan, sable, eland and Lichtenstein's hartebeest.
Richest game is found at the northern Busanga Plains where flooded grasslands attract lion to the large herds of buffalo, zebra and antelope. In the dry season, animals are forced close to the swamps and marshy areas.
The central area is largely patches of thick woodland in savanna grassland with best game viewing around Lufupa Channel. The area has plentiful predators with notable leopard. Birding is very good along the river, with Pel's fishing owl among the 400 species in the park.
In the south, mopane woodland is interspersed with stony hills and rocky outcrops. This area has difficult access for game viewing. During the rainy season from November to April, most of the park is inaccessible.Tsetse fly can be an issue in parts.
