Unspoilt remote wildlife, riverside lodges, game viewing on water and land

Zambia public reserve

Lower Zambesi

Lower Zambesi national park stretches from the river to the impressive Zambesi Escarpment in a large area facing Zimbabwe's game rich Mana Pools. Lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo are commonly seen on the game-rich floodplains, backed by abudant birdlife in the mixed woodlands.

Once the private reserve of the President, the park's remote location keeps visitor numbers low with a focus on more exclusive lodges along the river.

Game viewing on land is complemented by viewing from motorised boat or canoe for the more adventurous. The sight of a herd of buffalo dashing into the water creates an exciting picture.

Rich acacia vegetation is dotted with great baobabs and a soundtrack of wallowing hippo. Amongst the colourful birdlife are trumpeter hornbill, Lilian's lovebird and elusive narina trogon.
