Game viewing by boat, herds of elephant, puku and Chobe bushbuck, tigerfish and catfish

Botswana area

Chobe River

Chobe River is a section of a much longer waterway, starting life as the Kwando in Angola, before becoming the Linyanti as it reaches Botswana to flow on to the Indian Ocean as it flows into the Zambesi at Kazangula.

The Chobe meanders through swamps of reed and papyrus with Chobe Park to the south and Namibia's Caprivi Strip to the north. The chief attractions of the Chobe are excellent game viewing, fishing and prolific birdlife. Puku and Chobe bushbuck are the more unusual antelopes.

Game viewing by boat offers some respite from the constrictions of a vehicle while seeing much of the same wildlife as it comes to the water to drink. Herds of elephant are a common site among the large water birds. Hippo and crocodile complete the picture with many smaller bird species around the wooded river bank.

The main attractions for anglers are tigerfish, catfish and a number of bream species. Boats and fishing tackle can be hired along with expert local fishing and bird guides.
