Arid Kalahari sands, busy waterholes and abundent wildlife

Zimbabwe public reserve

Hwange

Hwange is Zimbabwe's largest national park and well placed for Victoria Falls. An abundance of wildlife, concentrated around vital waterholes, enlivens the arid terrain of Kalahari sand, salt pans, acacia scrub and grasslands.

The park is known for massive herds of buffalo and the highest density of elephant in Africa. Where agriculture proved to be impossible, indigenous wildlife thrives. Wild dog, oryx and brown hyena are among over 100 mammal species.

The concentration of visitors is found around Main Camp, with access from neighbouring Dete. From here, Ten-Mile Drive leads on to some of the highest concentrations of game - giraffe, zebra, buffalo, many antelope and likely lion.
