Diving, game fishing and barefoot luxury on Zanzibar's Spice Island neighbour
Unspoilt Pemba Island is part of the Zanzibar archipelago, close to Kenyan waters to the north, with a cultural mix of Swahili and Arab. Clove trees, fishing, traditional medicine and witchcraft all feature strongly in local life.
Diving, game fishing and barefoot luxury are the principal attractions for visitors.
Surrounding waters are rich in large game fish such as marlin, barracuda and shark. Dive sites have steep drop-offs, untouched coral and abundant marine life.
Migrating whales may be seen at the end of August and September and huge whale sharks from December to April.
