Historical heart, botanical Gardens, colourful Bo Kaap, residential mountain slopes

Cape Town city

Cape Town Central

Central Cape Town sits in the City Bowl rimmed by the lower slopes of Table Mountain, Lions Head and Signal Hill. It provides a mix of original colonial architecure and more modern high rise.

The city centre has maintained a rich historical feel with much grand architecture around Greenmarket Square and neighbouring streets. Good nightlife is found in popular Long Street.

Gardens is the green heart of the city with a large open area containing a number of Cape Town's important buildings including Houses of Parliament.

Central residential suburbs include the contrasting affluent Oranjezicht neighborhood under Table Mountain and the colourful Malay quarter at Bo Kaap.
