Zanzibar Island
Zanzibar mixes a wealth of beach resorts with the historical excitement of Stone Town, built on the riches of the Omani trading empire.
The busy streets of Stone Town are typical Swahili - narrow alleys, lined with overhanging balconies and rich with centuries of history. Slave traders houses mingle with the dominating fortress and the Omani palace overlooking the dhows of the harbour.
Zanzibar Archipelago is a semi-autonomous state within Tanzania - made up of Unguja (Zanzibar Island) and Pemba, along with a plethora of smaller islands.
