Bird Island, rich marine life, beach hikes, open-air crayfish barbeque restaurants
Lamberts Bay is best known for the 30,000-strong gannet colony at Bird Island easily walked from the town harbour. Rich marine life also supports excellent fishing.
The thriving local fishing industry specialises in anchovy, pilchard, snoek and excellent crayfish – mainly for export but enjoyed locally.
Open-air barbeque restaurants along the coast offer local seafood straight out of the rich fishing waters in relaxed surrounds. Naturally, the local speciality is plentiful fresh crayfish.
Long sandy beaches offer fine shore hikes with frequent sightings of heavyside dolphin
and the occasional Southern Right whale. The surrounding area sees the local Springtime blooming of the famous West Coast wildflowers.
