Spacious, luxury tented camp in the setting of Joy Adamson's final book

Shaba camp

Joy's Camp

Link

The camp is something of a chic oasis in the desert Samburu country of central Kenya. It is located in the east of Shaba reserve on the historical site of Joy Adamson's tented home, overlooking a spring-filled waterhole. Regular visitors include elephant, lion, buffalo and the dry species - Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe and Grevy's zebra. This was also home to Penny, the leopard heroine of Joy Adamson's final book, Queen of Shaba.

Each luxury tent is individually decorated with the vibrant Boran cloth designs of the local nomadic tribes and handmade glass. Activities include trips to a Boran village during the seasonal visit. The spacious tents can accommodate up to 2 extra beds for children, to a maximum of 5 across the camp.

Game drives are complemented by relaxed viewing at the camp itself, from the lounge area or guests' private verandahs. The camp also has a collection of Joy Adamson memorabilia, loaned by the Elsa Trust. Guests may also visit Magado Crater with its Singing Wells.
