Royal hunting ground, large herds of plains game, elephant, rhino, lion and cheetah, ancient hardwood trees
Hlane royal national park was created as a royal hunting ground during 1940s. The park now thrives as a protected sanctuary which it became in 1967 after serious poaching issues.
Swaziland’s largest protected area boasts its largest herds of zebra, wildebeest and antelope, with elephant, white rhino, lion, cheetah and leopard. The bushveld area is dominated by indigneous hardwood trees including knobwood and leadwood. Abundant birdlife, over 400 species include the highest density of nesting white backed vultures in Africa.
Guided walking and mountain biking safaris supplement game drives across Hlane's flat terrain. Dry months see game concentrated around water resources on the banks of the Black Mbuluzi River and shallow pans.
The park has two comfortable self-catering camps.
