Shimoni
The small port of Shimoni offers dhow excursions for snorkelling and diving in the Kisite Mpunguti marine national park. Boats also take visitors across to Wasimi Island.
Rich fishing stocks in the Pemba channel are reflected in the daily fish auction and excellent sport fishing.
Swahili ruins and the dilapidated old headquarters of the Imperial British East African Company testify to the town's historical significance.
Shimoni Caves were once a place of refuge and later used to hold slaves to be shipped off to the markets of Zanzibar. Restraining rings still remain in the caves, along with stalamites and stalagtites.
