Privileged leafy residential suburb, Karen Blixen museum, well-placed for flights
Karen is the leafy privileged residential suburb preferred by Nairobi's ex-pat population and senior politicians. Excellent restaurants and boutique hotels make it good overnight option, well-placed for both airports.
The area is the location of Karen Blixen's failed coffee plantation. Her home features strongly in the romance with Dennis Finch-Hatton that was to bring world attention as the central theme of Out of Africa. The small house and pleasant gardens are now open as the Karen Blixen Museum.
Wildlife lovers will enjoy the close encounter at the Giraffe Centre and the daily feeding at the nearby Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage.
