The buttons below the map hide/show locations by type – eg Accommodation, Airports, Reserves, Borders.

The buttons on the right apply to the map as a whole
Lassoo – zooms the map to include all visible items
Show – make ALL items visible – this may clutter the map
Hide – removes all items from the maps
Ruler – provide a simple scale tool – the endpoints can be dragged to measure the distance of interest
Help – you are here!

Zoom & pan – handled by the controls on the left or more directly by dragging and double-click
Streetview – drag the ‘person’ to the area of interest. Available views are highlighted in blue. Click ‘X’ top right to close Streetview
Map type – top right menu

Dar es Salaam

Dar es Salaam House of Peace originated as a trading station of the German East Africa Company, developing rapidly with the opening of the railway. The natural harbour has allowed it to become a major port.

Dar is the national hub for transportation, commerce, manufacture and administration with a population around 3 million. Parliament sits at Dodoma, the official capital in central Tanzania.

Humidity and an overloaded infrastructure are the challenges but the visitor but will find a welcoming city in Dar's busy streets - Swahili with a mix of Arab, Asian, German and British.

Upmarket City Centre hotels are complemented by beach resorts to the north and south.
