Gateway to Paradise, pony trekking & hiking, 4x4 trails

Lesotho

Malealea

Malealea sits on the edge of the Thaba Putsoa mountain range to the south of Lesotho. It is best known for its Basotho pony trekking arranged by Malealea Lodge.

Various options are available to explore the mountains and valleys around Malealea - gorges, waterfalls, San rock art and stunning views.

Overnight guided trails can be ridden on local Basotho ponies or hiked, with a hire pony as packhorse. Popular day trips include Bushman paintings and Botsoela Waterfall. Longer trips stay overnight in the mountains heading for Ribanang Falls or Maletsunyane Waterfall at Semonkong.

Further exploration is possible by vehicle, with various alternatives for 4x4 and different weather conditions. Camping and cultural stays with local Chiefs can also be arranged.
