Gold rush settlement, Phophonyane Falls, Maguga Dam houseboats
Piggs Peak was founded an early gold rush in 1884. It is named after William Pigg who lived here. The main industry is provided by the surrounding forests.
Phophonyane Falls is reached by through Gobolondlo Forest as the meandering river flies over 80m high waterfall. The exposed rocks here are some of the world's oldest at over 3.5 billion years.
Maguga Dam to the south has created a scenic holiday area with its 115 metre wall, one of the highest in Southern Africa. It has excellent bass fishing. Komati River can be navigated by sleep-onboard boats to enjoy the waterbirds and small game on its banks.
