Togo

Togo's varied scenic landscapes combine with a full calendar of colourful festivals across diverse ethnic and religious groups. The adventurous traveller is well rewarded by a growth in eco-tourism.

Lome is the relaxed capital, friendly and relaxed with elegant palm tree boulevards, colourful markets, sea front and lagoon. Better for swimming is the nearby Lac Togo with sandy shores and small villages. Togoville on the north shore is noted for its voodoo shrines.

The Danyi Plateau area is noted for its buttferflies, hiking and amazing views. Here are the thickly vegetated slopes of mont Klouto, the Aklou Falls and the sheer faces of the plateau itself.

In the far north, the Tamberma closely guard there traditions with a deep suspicion of outside influence - reflected in fortess-like dwellings and self-sufficiency.
