Large-tusk elephant, scenic sandstone cliffs, lowveld walking safaris, ancient baobabs

Zimbabwe public reserve

Gonarezhou

Scenic Gonarezhou is part of Great Limpopo Transfrontier park allowing free movement of game area with Kruger Park and Mozambique's Limpopo Park. Typical lowveld landscape of baobabs, scrub and sandstone cliffs is well suited to guided walking safaris.

Large-tusked elephant have been a target for Arab traders, colonial hunters and more recent poachers, now curbed by community initiatives.

Excellent game viewing is found deep in the park at the meeting of the Save and Runde rivers where red sandstone cliffs give way to rich vegetation. Wild dog sightings are quite common.

Several thousand elephant share the park with buffalo, giraffe, zebra and rich birdlife. Notable among the antelope is the representation of the smaller species - suni, klipspringer. oribi, steenbok, duiker and grysbok.
