Rich birdlife, waterhole hides, suni antelope and blue monkey

Malawi public reserve

Lengwe

Compact Lengwe national park is found in the Lower Shire Valley across the River Mwanza from Majete wildlife reserve. Mixed thickets and patches of grassland make an interesting park for the keen game watcher.

Rich birdlife includes a number of unique species among its total of 300. Birds include the gorgeous bush-shrike and colourful Bohm's bee-eater.

In dry season, game concentrates around accessible waterholes, with viewing hides. Game includes bushpig, blue monkey, impala, kudu, bushbuck and diminutive Livingstone's suni. Nyala are found at the northern limit of their range.

Leopard and large herds of buffalo prefer the sandstone hills of the less easily navigated west of the park. Guides are recommended here.
