Excellent hiking, open grasslands, giant redwoods, waterfalls, abundant birdlife and heavy rainfall

Lesotho public reserve

Sehlabathebe

Sehlabathebe national park is equally known for its rugged beauty as the sudden and heavy rains. It is one of Lesotho's few forested areas - conifer and huge Canadian redwood thrive with the high rainfall.

The solitude of open grasslands makes great hiking country with waterfalls, sandstone outcrops and abundant birdlife. Resident mountain reedbuck may be seen with occasional eland, oribi, duiker, jackal, caracal and leopard.

Leqooa River and Tsoelike River each wind their way through the park. The river and dams near the park lodge offer trout fishing.

The remote park can be accessed from Qacha's Nek close to the border with South Africa. The settlement was founded as a British tax collection point after the eradication of the original San population. Bushman's Nek mountain resort provides access from the Southern Drakenberg in South Africa
