Swaziland's largest river, white water rafting, scenic gorges
The Great Usutu River is the largest river in Swaziland and site of Swaziland's lowest point at 21 metres above sea level as it enters Mozambique on the way to the Indian Ocean.
The river rises in South Africa and flows through Mhkaya game reserve before sweeping north past the sugar plantations of Big Bend.
The name is thought to refer to local Basotho people who were attacked and displaced by Swazis or dark brown of its muddy water.
The Great Usutu is characterised by narrow gorges that have made it popular for whitewater rafting.
