Fine elevated views, good birding, ironwood forest, hiking, fishing and canoeing
Mlawula nature reserve runs through the Lubombo Mountains on the border with Mozambique. Elevated viewpoints in the mountains give fine views across Swaziland to the highveld peaks in the west.
Game viewing includes white rhino and oribi antelope, with leopard, honey badger and ant bear among the nocturnal species.
Diverse terrain includes grassland of Sisipho Valley, woodland and dark ironwood forest. The range of habitats supports 350 bird species including african finfoot, narina trogon and five vulture species.
The reserve offers fishing, canoeing, comfortable tented accommodation and equipped tents for hikers. Bush trails through the mountains lead to fine views, ancient caves and rich game viewing.
