Foothills of Lubombo Mountains, private lodges, fishing, hiking and biking
Mbuluzi game reserve lies in the foothills of the Lubombo Mountains forming part of a larger conservancy with Hlane, Shewula and Mlawula which may be accessed by visitors. Good game viewing in the bushveld includes lion, elephant, rhino, giraffe, zebra and occasional leopard and hyena.
Well-maintained trails offering short walks and longer hikes over varied terrain without a guide. Trails through riparian forest and rocky ridges give a good range of birding habitats. Over 300 species include african finfoot and whitebacked night heron. Mountain biking is allowed over the hilly network of roads and trails.
Mlawula River and Mbuluzi River have healthy populations of indigenous fish including plentiful catfish for catch-and-release angling, amongst the large crocodiles.
Four self-catering lodges are situated in secluded locations along the beautiful Mlawula River.
