Chobe River, Chobe Park, large hotels and smaller lodges, Victoria Falls excursion

Chobe River town

Kasane

Kasane ties together game viewing by boat on the Chobe River with land-based drives in Chobe Park. The absence of fences allows elephant and buffalo to stray into town looking for fresh pasture.

The town is dominated by safari tourism with number of large hotels and smaller properties along the riverfront. Many offer game viewing and fishing expeditions from their own jetties.

Kasane Rapids, close to town, has abundant birdlife around teh river, with acoupleof specials in the African finfoot and halfcollared kingfisher.

It was from the crossing point at Kazangula that David Livingstone set off to Victoria Falls in 1855. The trip is much easier today with a short flight or by ferry crossing and road.
