Kenya Guide
Birthplace of the Safari, balloon rides over the Mara, flamingo-filled Rift Valley lakes and Swahili coast beach getaways
The Great Migration passes through the brown savannah of the Masai Mara from late June to early October but Kenya offers much more. From the shores of Lake Victoria through the Rift Valley, Highlands, dry Samburu country and Indian Ocean, varied landscapes offer a wealth of game viewing, hiking, horse riding and great places to simply relax.
Cultural diversity of some 40-plus tribal groups brings a warm welcome and more than a splash of colour - epitomised by the bright red costumes of the Maasai people.
The Swahili coast stretches from old slave caves at Shimoni through Mombasa up to island getaways at Lamu and beyond. Family resorts are complemented by barefoot luxury at excellent beach lodges. Fresh seafood and spicy local cuisine add local flavour to a full selection of sea activities - sailing dhow cruises, deep sea fishing, diving.
Fine Rift Valley scenery brings mountain backdrops, a ribbon of major lakes and the congregation of huge numbers of flamingo. Mount Kenya provides great hiking country with fine views, excellent game viewing and excellent camps and lodges in the area. Mount Kenya Safari Club has been restored to luxurious glory, with horse riding and a fine 18-hole golf course.
