Beautiful highland scenery, Big Five game viewing, Treetops lodge

Central Kenya public reserve

Aberdares

The Aberdares range is part of the eastern Rift Valley wall, reminiscent of Scottish landscapes with heather covered moorland. The highest peak is Ol Donyo Lesatima at 4,300 metres.

The park has a wide range of beautiful landscapes deep valleys, streams, rivers, waterfalls, moorland, bamboo forests and rainforests at lower altitudes.

Wildlife residents include lion, elephant, black rhino, buffalo and the elusive bongo antelope.

A particular claim to fame is the visit for a state dinner at Treetops by Princess Elizabeth, as she was, when she acceded to the throne on the death of her father King George VI in 1952. The lodge has since been rebuilt on the same location.
