Paradise beaches, blue waters, old Swahili trading settlements

Kenya

Lamu Archipelago

Lamu Archipelago is a contrasting coastal destination away from Mombasa - less developed and more remote. Hundreds of kilometres of tropical beaches, white sands and palm trees are surrounded by blue waters and coral reefs.

Historic World Heritage Site Lamu Town is the largest town of the archipelago, waterside sailing dhows and typically narrow Swahili streets.

The archipelago was heavily involved in early world trading. Widespread remains of early Swahili settlements date back to 9th century.

Lamu, Manda and Pate are the largest islands. Smaller Kiwayu offers rich sea life and water sports in Kiunga Marine National Reserve.
