Mount Kenya, Aberdares, Laikipia highlands, Samburu national park

Kenya

Central Kenya

Highland Central Kenya is dominated by free-standing Mount Kenya, the country's highest mountain best seen early in the day. The area provides an excellent opportunity to view dry country species - grevy zebra, beisa oryx and reticulated giraffe.

The high country of Laikipia lies just across the equator, with a mix of cattle ranches and dedicated wildlife areas. The area is noted for fine scenery, horse riding and choice of excellent lodges.

The Aberdares is well known for its highland Big Five game viewing. Private conservancies at Ol Pejeta and Lewa are noted for their contribution to the survival of endangered black rhino.

Further east, Samburu, Meru and Shaba provide varied wildlife viewing opportunities in diverse scenery.
