Grassy plains, dotted with acacia trees, spectaular game viewing with the Great Migration
Masai Mara is best known for the annual Great Migration from June through to October as millions of plains game follow the rains to find fresh pastures.
The Mara wildlife area combines the Mara Reserve and Mara Triangle with adjacent conservancies and ranches of the Greater Mara to form a huge single eco-system with Tanzania's Serengeti.
Big Five are all found in the Masai Mara, although black rhinos remain low in number. Leopards, hyenas, cheetahs, jackals, and bat-eared foxes augment the predator species. Elephants, hippo and crocodiles are found in large groups around the Mara and Talek rivers.
The area is also known for the colourful traditions of the Maasai inhabitants.
The Mara has warm days (24-28ºC) and much cooler nights. Rains are expected twice a year in Oct/Nov (short rains) and late Mar/end May (long rains) - a spectacular time of year with dramatic storms, spectacular sunsets and very few people
