Since 1902, the central Stanley has hosted some of the world's most recognizable names - acclaimed actors, authors, world leaders on royal and state visits to Kenya. With its old charm and historic features, it remains a landmark with a rich history. Guarding the Stanley's entrance is the world famous tree, whose message-board has formed the centrepiece of the legendary Thorn Tree Café since 1959. Thorn Tree is an open-air café, famed meeting point of East Africa since the time of Ernest Hemingway.
