Huge flocks of flamingo, black rhino, lion, cheetah and impressive scenery

Rift Valley Kenya public reserve

Lake Nakuru

Huge flocks of greater and lesser flamingo form the centre-piece of Lake Nakuru national park. Small and scenic with its Rift Valley backdrop, the park offers good game viewing with a number of raised vantage points, such as Baboon Rock.

Water levels of the soda lake fluctuate considerably - supporting flocks of flamingo up to two million in number, shimmering pink across the surface of the lake.

The rich birdlife boasts 400 species, boosted by European migrants. Larger birds include pelican, goliath heron, hammerkop, verreaux eagle and fish eagle.

Wildlife includes lion, cheetah, Rothchild's giraffe, white rhino and black rhino though often hidden in thick bush. With a little luck, leopard may be seen.
