Magaliesberg

The Magaliesberg are among the oldest mountains in the world - stretching 120km east of Pretoria to Rustenburg - reached in an hour from Johannesburg. Quartzite cliffs, permanent waterfalls and valleys up to 100m in depth are popular with hikers.Magaliesberg was once the home of huge elephant herds, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, big cats and many species of buck. Today, porcupines, polecats, bushbabies, dassies and weasles roam wild. In the forest there are vervet monkeys, duiker and genets.
