Relaxed colonial elegance set in extensive tropical gardens, an array of activities and fine cuisine
Originally created in 1956 as a retreat by Hollywood star William Holden, the Safari Club has been beautifully restored to its full glory to offer a luxurious escape in extensive grounds with fine views of Mount Kenya.
An illustrious array of guests has included a wide range of royal visitors and celebrated figures from Winston Churchill to Bing Crosby, drawn by the relaxed elegance and a reputation for excellence.
The range of activities is as extensive as the grounds from horse riding to mountain biking, 9-hole golf, beauty treatments, a visit to the animal orphanage and even a maze. Excursions may be arranged to cater for game viewing at nearby by wildlife parks, trout fishing and mountain bikng. Or guests may simply relax around the pool, enjoy cocktails on the terrace and the excellent menu. Service is excellent throughout.
Guided game walks focus on the flora and fauna, birdlife, insects and ecosystem of the forest reserve. Naturalist birding walks may find starlings, hornbills, secret ibis and many more species. Other wildlife destinations within comfortable range are Sweetwaters game reserve, with its chimpanzee sanctuary, and Aberdares national park.
