The Anglo-Boer War lasted from 1899 to 1802 with eventual victory going to the British only for power to be ceded to an eventual Boer Government and subsequent apartheid policies. Spion Kop with its Liverpool (FC) connection is the best known site.Rather shamefully, it was during this dirty war that the British invented the concept and practice of the concentration camp - keeping Boer men, women and children in the most squalid conditions in which disease claimed many lives.
